Οι υποψηφιότητες για τα Oscar, που θα απονεμειθούν στις 22 Φεβρουαρίου κατά την διάκρεια της 87ης τελετής, ανακοινώθηκαν. To Birdman του Alejandro G. Iñárritu και το Grand Budapest Hotel του Wes Anderson συγκέντρωσαν τις περισσότερες υποψηφιότητες (από 9), ενώ ακολούθησε το The Imitation Game του Morten Tyldum. Έκπληξη αποτελεί η απουσία της ταινίας Lego, προκαλώντας με αυτό τον τρόπο την αντίδραση του σκηνοθέτη, Philip Lord, ο οποίος ανέβασε στον προσωπικό του λογαριασμό στο twitter ένα Oscar από κίτρινα τουβλάκια Lego, γράφοντας “Δεν πειράζει! Έφτιαξα το δικό μου!”.
